This is a great beginning of the year lesson for Reading! It focuses on using reading strategies to monitor your comprehension and use metacognition. The Prezi lesson takes your students through a step-by-step process of identifying problems when they read and how to fix them--just like a car needs to realize when it's veering off the road. It also teaches your students how to listen to their "second voice" respond to the book and introduces them to the "superhero" Metacognition. They learn all

Teaching genres to students is very important, and it is necessary to have a resource that has all of the genres and their characteristics. I never could find exactly what I was looking for, so I created my own, and I hope that it's exactly what you need. About the store

Experience

I am a Language Arts and Reading teacher of gifted students. I have taught every grade from 1st-6th, but this year I am currently teaching 5th and 6th graders.

Teaching style

I desire for my classroom to be a place where student have the opportunity to learn and experience literature and creative ideas. I guide them along the process, but ultimately I am preparing them to be independent learners. I believe student engagement is key and allowing students to take ownership of their classroom and their learning. We use a lot of technology and workstations in our classroom. My goal is to allow students a place to develop as learners and readers. I want to find refreshing ideas and new ways to teach them concepts so they can not only learn them, but apply them in their lives.
