Words within Words: Suffixes that Change Parts of Speech
Words within Words: Suffixes that Change Parts of Speech is a four week unit that allows student to interact with and learn suffixes that change words to different parts of speech. Each week students are given 5 suffixes that change words to a specific part of speech (e.g. 5 suffixes that change words to nouns). They will focus on these words & use them during the week in different activities.

Words within Words Unit: Root Words, Prefixes, & Suffixes
Words within Words is a full 24 week classroom unit aligned with Common Core Standards that allows students to interact with and learn common root words, prefixes, and suffixes. Each week students are given 5 "word parts" that they will focus on during the week. The unit comes with word parts for 24 weeks. Throughout the week, the teacher can refer back to the word roots, give examples, dig deeper into the meaning and relationship between the words, and even add words to a classroom Word Wall. T

Poetry Prezi
This Prezi is a great resource to use when teaching poetry to your students! It is designed to be used during a poetry unit or a study of poetry. It can be used as an introduction, in the middle of your instruction, or as a wrap up to a unit. It can also be used in one lesson or over more than one day.

Independent Daily Reading: IDR Binders / Reader's Notebook
Using IDR in the classroom will allow your students to choose & read books based on their interests & preferences. You will work with your students to set goals that make them excited about & engaged in reading. Teaching genres to students is very important, and it is necessary to have a resource that has all of the genres and their characteristics. I never could find exactly what I was looking for, so I created my own, and I hope that it's exactly what you need.

As I GO Chart
GO Charts are a strategy that teachers have used in their classrooms during whole group instruction while reading a text.

After studying and analyzing persuasive articles, students will get the opportunity to create a project of their own. Students will read a persuasive/debate article of their choice. Then, they will analyze the article and evaluate the author's argument. They will look for evidence, persuasive techniques, and reasoning. Daily Reading Response SPARKbook Status Updates

Experience
I am a Language Arts and Reading teacher of gifted students. I have taught every grade from 1st-6th, but this year I am currently teaching 5th and 6th graders.
Teaching style
I desire for my classroom to be a place where student have the opportunity to learn and experience literature and creative ideas. I guide them along the process, but ultimately I am preparing them to be independent learners.
I believe student engagement is key and allowing students to take ownership of their classroom and their learning. We use a lot of technology and workstations in our classroom.
My goal is to allow students a place to develop as learners and readers. I want to find refreshing ideas and new ways to teach them concepts so they can not only learn them, but apply them in their lives.

My own education history
I went through the gifted program at my elementary school, and now I am back teaching in the same gifted program. I am even teaching alongside of one of my previous teachers! I have a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's in Gifted Education.
