Genres in Literature PowerPoint
Teaching genres to students is very important, and it is necessary to have a resource that has all of the genres and their characteristics. I never could find exactly what I was looking for, so I created my own, and I hope that it's exactly what you need.
The presentation includes:
-visual graphic organizer of all of the fiction and nonfiction genres
-slides for each genre (including the sub genres of traditional literature)
-characteristics of each genre
-examples of stories for certain genres

As I GO Chart
GO Charts are a strategy that teachers have used in their classrooms during whole group instruction while reading a text.
The "As I GO Chart" is designed based off of this strategy, but it puts the power in the hands of the students. Persuasive Project
After studying and analyzing persuasive articles, students will get the opportunity to create a project of their own. Students will read a persuasive/debate article of their choice. Then, they will analyze the article and evaluate the author's argument. They will look for evidence, persuasive techniques, and reasoning. They will then create a written response on their own personal feelings on the topic of the article. Lastly, they will create a print advertisement or commercial persuading others

Daily Reading Response SPARKbook Status Updates

Experience
I am a Language Arts and Reading teacher of gifted students. I have taught every grade from 1st-6th, but this year I am currently teaching 5th and 6th graders.
Teaching style
I desire for my classroom to be a place where student have the opportunity to learn and experience literature and creative ideas. I guide them along the process, but ultimately I am preparing them to be independent learners.
I believe student engagement is key and allowing students to take ownership of their classroom and their learning. We use a lot of technology and workstations in our classroom.
My goal is to allow students a place to develop as learners and readers. I want to find refreshing ideas and new ways to teach them concepts so they can not only learn them, but apply them in their lives.

My own education history
I went through the gifted program at my elementary school, and now I am back teaching in the same gifted program. I am even teaching alongside of one of my previous teachers! I have a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's in Gifted Education.
