This is a great resource as an introduction to teaching biomes. I create a webquest with specific links to the different biomes and students complete a website walk to find specific information as an introduction to biomes.

Thermal Energy Transfer Lab
This lab works with different ways to transfer heat and thermal energy. This is a major lab that will involves lots of perfect timing and careful use of materials. However it allows the students to actually see heat energy transfer and apply what we've been talking about regarding convection, conduction and radiation.

Rocket Lab
Students will learn to control potential and kinetic energy in order to successfully reach a certain height on a yardstick. This involves a lot of water and "explosions" but the kids will have a BLAST!

Convection Currents Lab
This lab will help students understand convection currents and how hot and cold water move in a circular pattern. This is best for 6th grade standards. It also helps explain the uneven heating of the Earth due to the sun.

This is a simplified way for students to understand potential and kinetic energy as it relates to weight. This is a great alternative assignment if the Rocket lab seems too messy for you!

Teaching style
I am a hands-on teacher. I believe students learn best when they are actively engaged in the material. This requires a lot of prep work and standards of excellence on my part. I also have to establish a trustworthy environment with my students at an early date during the school year. Teaching should be fun for all involved, not just the teacher. By allowing my students to explore their creative side during the teaching days, they are more invested in their own learning and have a tendency to grasp concepts at a quicker rate.
