Biome Project
This is a hands-on unit activity that allows students to be assigned a particular biome, create a presentation to teach the class about their specific biome, and then present this information to the class. This is a unit long activity that takes a large majority of the 9 weeks. This activity includes a group assignment which the students then break into specific roles in order to focus on specific content, they then must create a presentation and a diorama using provided resources.

Muscular System Lab
Students work in pairs and go around the room and stretch certain muscles to understand their location. Highly effective in teaching them about flexibility, as well as the tiring of muscles.

Biome Presentation Notes
This product is meant to be used in conjunction to the Biome Project. When students are presenting their biomes, you will have the rest of the class complete the Biome Presentation notes to focus on specific content learned throughout the group presentations. These questions align to the specific Tennessee State Standards that the students will need to grasp prior to TCAP.

Endangered Species Project
To create a poster explaining why a specific animal has become endangered. This will be to understand why environmental changes can affect animals survival rate of some species.

Lab students can do about the digestive system. Simulates the digestive process in the upper respiratory tract. Allows students to interact and visualize what is happening during digestion.

Thermal Energy Transfer Lab
This lab works with different ways to transfer heat and thermal energy. This is a major lab that will involves lots of perfect timing and careful use of materials. However it allows the students to actually see heat energy transfer and apply what we've been talking about regarding convection, conduction and radiation.

Nervous System Lab
Students would work with a reflex ball (available at 5 below and dollar tree) and test their reflexes in groups. Questions are attached at the end to test their ability to retain information about the nervous system.

Rocket Lab
Students will learn to control potential and kinetic energy in order to successfully reach a certain height on a yardstick. This involves a lot of water and "explosions" but the kids will have a BLAST!

Convection Currents Lab
This lab will help students understand convection currents and how hot and cold water move in a circular pattern. This is best for 6th grade standards. It also helps explain the uneven heating of the Earth due to the sun.

A lab you can do with your kids about the water cycle. It even shows them about groundwater if you let the experiment sit in the sun for long enough.

Bouncing Kinetic and Potential Energy Lab
This is a simplified way for students to understand potential and kinetic energy as it relates to weight. This is a great alternative assignment if the Rocket lab seems too messy for you!

Force and Motion Lab
This requires a little bit of prep work on the teachers part. I handmade the inclined plane by using insulation tubing from Home Depot, I cut it in half and was able to double the amount of inclined planes I could make. You also will need 3 different weighted objects that fit on the inclined planes, I suggest weighted ball bearing from Home Depot. The idea is for the 3 objects to be as similar in size as possible for accuracy. This activity is quick and very informative, it also come with discus

Teaching style
I am a hands-on teacher. I believe students learn best when they are actively engaged in the material. This requires a lot of prep work and standards of excellence on my part. I also have to establish a trustworthy environment with my students at an early date during the school year. Teaching should be fun for all involved, not just the teacher. By allowing my students to explore their creative side during the teaching days, they are more invested in their own learning and have a tendency to grasp concepts at a quicker rate.
