In this activity, children will collect data while at the grocery store and then use the data to complete activities. Students will practice weighing fruits in the grocery store scale and calculate volume of cereal boxes and compare the mass of the contents.

This resource provides a pre-test to determine student target levels on the use of multiplicative and additive comparison, and writing appropriate equations, in solving word problems. This will help students understand the relationship that more items relates to more weight and therefore a linear relationship exists.
