Language Alive

This is a multi-day mini unit that I put together to practice stem changing verbs in the present tense, verbs like gustar in the present tense, as well as sports vocabulary. This was originally developed to accompany the textbook Así se Dice 1 Chapter 7, but can be used outside of that. Students type in the correct conjugation of each verb to reveal a pixel art picture of Frida Kahlo. This activity was made to accompany ¡Avancemos! 1 unit 2.1, but can be used with any Spanish curriculum covering regular present tense verb conjugation.  Verbs included in the activity: contestar, llegar, tomar, usar, necesitar, sacar, and enseñar. This product is ONLY Google compatible. It will not work on Microsoft excel. Answer key included, to make a student copy, just erase the answers.

This is a reading about the Christmas tradition of Caga Tió that takes place in Spain. I originally made this for an in person class but changed it to work for virtual and asynchronous learning. The students will read the info sheet on the tradition and then answer questions on the Google Form which is set to autograde. I first developed this unit to be used during Valentine’s Day but it can be used any time of the year. A specific 2 day focus is given to -AR endings and the verb ser in the imperfect tense. Using two romantics songs and the lyrics sheets, students will deepen their understanding and practice of these endings. A little freebie to make your life easier! This Google Slides ppt is downloadable and editable. It includes the verbs hacer, venir, salir, oir, traer, and poner. It does not include practice, just the notes. This is a great resource if you need a sub plan to have students copy the information and then apply it on a worksheet from your textbook series. Use this as a warm up to help students practice using -ar preterit verbs, including -car -gar and -zar changers. They will each get a card with a question, find a partner, ask and answer each question and then trade cards. This activity can go on for as long as you like but I would suggest somwhere between 5-15 minutes.

Teach your students about how Valentine's Day is celebrated around the world with this easy reading.
