One-Step Equations Word Problems Task Cards

Write and solve one-step equations from real world word problem solving scenarios. Thirty-two rigorous task cards have students practice writing and solving one-step equations with a variety of numbers: integers, fractions, and decimals. The numbers have been selected so that students must use the inverse operation instead of being able to automatically “see” the answer. This activity is designed to be used once students are already familiar with one-step equations and not as an introductory les

Integer Centers and Games

Practice integers with seven math centers that cover a range of introductory skills students need to master integer operations. Integer vocabulary, integer modeling with algebra tiles, number lines, and tables, as well as problem solving are practiced in these math centers. Each game includes student instructions and a teacher guide to help you set up your center. Each activity also includes an answer key or an example of possible student work to make grading easy. Included in this collection

Ratios and Proportions Task Cards

Learning ratios and proportions takes a lot of practice, and these differentiated task cards have 132 total questions that go with 44 real world and model scenarios. Students write ratios in word form, colon form, fraction form, and decimal form and solve proportional relationships and percent problems. Three levels of questions can be selected randomly by rolling dice or by the teacher with the differentiated dice cards to make the perfect practice for your students. The task cards can also

Integer Operations with Algebra Tiles Lesson Materials

This five part lesson begins by introducing the concepts of positive and negative numbers through real world examples. Then moves into modeling using algebra tiles and number lines. The next section uses basic algebra tile modeling to introduce the concepts of integer operations. Then students apply this to word problem scenarios that require them to model the situations presented with algebra tiles. The lesson finishes with a written reflection. For best results, use this activity with stud

Constant of Proportionality Task Cards

Practice finding constants of proportionality or scale factor using these fun, monster themed task cards. Students use the task card to create a table, find proportional patterns, and write equations. From this students also write verbal relationship statements. To provide scaffolding for students, three types of Scaffold Cards are included that students can match to the scenario in their task card. The scaffolding comes in three levels: table cards, equation cards, and written relationship

Teaching style

I am a Texas educator who enjoys developing math and science materials for upper elementary and middle school students! With nearly 20 years of experience in education, I have taught math and science to 5th and 6th graders, served as an instructional coach, and currently work as an administrator. My expertise lies in creating math resources that provide hands-on learning opportunities for students at different academic levels, including English language learners and those at risk.

My own education history

I received my bachelor's degree in education from Sam Houston State University and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M Commerce. I am certified in Early Childhood through Grade 4 in all subjects, Mathematics and Science for Grades 4 to 8, and English as a Second Language for all grade levels.
