This is a fun list of "Most Likely To" awards that I used at the end of the year to engage my students and have them reflect on the school year as well as their peers. We all had fun!

I wanted to build an authentic learning experience for the beginning of the year and ended up developing this unit which engages students in an inquiry where they explore the various aspects of their personal identity. Based on the depth of the inquiry, this unit would richly benefit student learning at any part of your school year. This is part 1 that includes the first 3 lessons in the unit. This is a fun survey that you can use to get to know your students and how they feel about different areas of their home and school life. It is not writing intensive so all students will have access to share their thoughts. I've used humor to engage the students with an inventory that is short enough that you can review a class and hit the ground running with your group!

This is an exploration of Black history that allows students through critical discussion and the analysis of various forms of media to draw conclusion about the importance of studying Black History. Through further critical discussion and the creation of their own media to make connections between what they learn about Black History and an Anti-Oppression framework. The enduring understanding is how each student can take steps to reduce oppression in our learning community.

This learning task involves students completing reading, writing and persuasive speaking activities. My students greatly enjoyed being able to complete this language assignment and share what they know in a meaningful way. The focus of this learning task is on Dynamic Characters & Point of View.
