This is a fun survey that you can use to get to know your students and how they feel about different areas of their home and school life. It is not writing intensive so all students will have access to share their thoughts. I've used humor to engage the students with an inventory that is short enough that you can review a class and hit the ground running with your group!

This learning task involves a classroom challenge where students prepare persuasive media presentations in addition to biographies of their own candidates for Person of the Century. It's interesting to see some of their choices! Bieber was a tough sell for me...lol

My students have enjoyed this activity as a precursor to formal debating. They have enjoyed the opportunity to have a persuasive conversation about someone that they find truly amazing! They take up the task of convincing their audience that their person is more amazing than the others that are proposed. This is a great opportunity for students to reflect on their own speaking performance and the speaking strategies used by their peers.
