This activity requires students to the the part, whole, percent proportion to answer questions about a particular student's grades. Students are required to identify part, whole, and percent and then use the proportion to find the missing part. Students can work in small groups or individually. An extension is included that reviews average and uses WICOR and AP strategies. Teacher, directions, student grade cards, and a recording table are included.
Students will use a bag of M&Ms to determine if the Mars Company is putting too many red M&Ms in the bag compared to the other colors. Students are required to find the fraction, decimal, and percent of each color of M&M. They are then required to use the data that they have concluded to write a conclusion about the amount of red M&Ms in the bag. This activity requires students to solve inequalities, write problems situations involving inequalities, and match problems situations to inequalities. This activity fosters collaborative working and accountable talk. It requires students to think at a higher level and create meaningful work in math.
This assignment requires students to find a video clip or graphic using the internet. They then write a mathematical question that relates to the video or graphic. This lesson covers the concepts of writing and solving inequalities, critical writing in math, and relating math to real world situations.
This product was designed to guide student through the solution process. It ask students to think in depth about the process they they should use when solving a multi step word problem. Critical thinking and critical writing are involved. This is a great tool that will model problem solving and improve their solving skills.

I have been teaching math for seven years. Two years in fifth grade and the rest in sixth grade. I am a PreAP and GATE teacher.
