I began my teaching career teaching middle school mathematics. After four wonderful years at the junior high level, I then moved to adult education and have been teaching at the college level for five years.
This sheet combines the "how to" and examples for basic math computations including converting percent to decimals, rounding, decimals, fractions, mean, etc.
I would provide this sheet to my students at the start of the school year and require they keep it in their binders. This was a great resource to look back on and consult throughout the year.
These Halloween Story Problems were a hit in my mathematics classroom. Each silly prompt will require students to think critically about the details provided and make decisions on what data is needed and what mathematically needs to be done to solve the problem.
These story problems are a great way to keep the fun in Halloween but still promote critical thinking. All items are fully editable!
This item is included in the Math Story Problems Bundle for Middle School. If you purchased the bundle
These problems combine logic; critical thinking skills; and calculation of mean, median, and mode to solve the required problems.
Throwing numbers at students and having them calculate the mean, median, and mode is redundant and mundane. Spice up statistical calculations with these fun problems. I always use my students' names and it makes them laugh when they read the prompts.
Students will determine which fast food restaurant offers more meal choices by designing tree diagrams.
Before the activity begins, I always have my students take a vote on which one they believe will have more choices and why.
This item is included in the Tree Diagram Mini Bundle. If you purchased the Tree Diagram Mini Bundle, you do not have to purchase this item.
This Problem Solving Guided Reference Sheet is perfect for your students' math binders. It has empty spots for students to fill in the correct answers as you work through the problem solving strategies.
There are three total strategy sheets, and each one includes a practice problem at the bottom to complete together in class.
The final page includes four practice problems that you could either do together in class or assign as homework.
This a great resource for your students' math binders.
Students are asked to think critically about representing data graphically. The data is relatable to students (i.e. fast food restaurants and sports).
Because students are asked to think critically before they graph, they will learn to make better decisions!
One "best choice" is a bar graph, and the other "best choice" is a line graph.
This resource guide is perfect for your students' math binders.
It illustrates the "how to" of adding and subtracting integers and offers examples and practice problems.
I used this page of fractions for multiple activites.
One example is simplest form. I would ask the students to flip over the paper and circle any fractions that are in simplest form. I would then have them convert the others to simplest form.
Another example is addition. I would have the students cut out the fractions and pull from the pile to add on their paper. (This would work with subtraction, multiplication, and division as well.)
