A pre-reading anticipation guide, which highlights significant themes of the beloved novel. There are 8 questions, which students respond to. Presentation also includes historical content of the time, as well as character descriptions, themes, and symbols/motifs.

A Google Slides presentation including author information, historical content, and character descriptions in preparation to read the play, "Our Town". Additionally, includes Google Doc Guided Notes to accompany to presentation and an eight question Anticipation Guide. Students are given a statement pertaining to essential questions and thematic elements of the play. They will check agree/disagree and will need to explain their reasoning.

Students create a visual analysis of the significant themes, symbols/motifs, character development, and quotes of the novel (this would work with any novel, but in this case is be used with TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD). After picking out these elements, they create a visual interpretation and analysis.

The test includes 32 character matching questions, multiple choice story/comprehension questions, short answer responses on symbols/motifs, as well as short answer quotation analysis. A 47 question assessment for The Giver. The test includes four sections (part 1- characters, part 2- story comprehension, part 3- quotations and why they are significant, and part 4- short answer response on themes of the novel). An answer key is included. I have also included theme notes (for the last two questions of the test).

Students will create a Cootie Catcher for a character. They will need to include what their character values/likes, create symbols, as well as motifs for their character. After creating the cootie catcher, students use the catcher to analyze who their character is. This summative activity requires them to think beyond what is written in the text and think critically about the character. They will complete a written response of their analysis. This works with any character.

Chapter questions for chapters 1-6 of the novel WALK TWO MOONS. The questions are critical thinking and analytical questions. Many require students to infer, analyze, and incorporate textual evidence.

This is an Anticipation Guide that may be used to introduce the thematic elements of the novel, Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. It includes 8 statements that students will evaluate before reading and a space for their explanation. The class should discuss their answers after responding. Once students finish reading the novel, they should re-evaluate their answers and see if any changed.

This is an introduction to the archetypes in a dystopian novel. I would use this either as a pre-reading tool, or during the unit as part of a reader's workshop (although earlier on). It has definitions for archetypes, what their purpose is, a video trailer to a dystopian novel, the opportunity for partner turn/talk, and a journal entry to demonstrate understanding of the archetypes in their own reading.

This lesson plan includes definitions of types of humor, clips that can be used, explanations of the clips, a handout that can be used to identify the types of humor specifically in Tom Sawyer, and lastly a wrap up/closure activity. While it is used specifically with Tom Sawyer, it could be used any novel that is humorous.

6th grade Ancient Greece Test

A final assessment for the novel, The Outsiders. It includes a character matching section, multiple choice comprehension questions, a figurative language fill in the blank section, a quote analysis section, themes, symbols, and foreshadowing. An answer key has been included.

7th grade social studies assessment on the American and French Revolution, as well as 13 colonies. Basic overview as this is world history and not US.
