Students often need a helping hand to navigate the symbols, motifs, and themes of a large work like Romeo & Juliet. This Niemeyer chart and discussion board is a great way to get students to slow down and examine each act of the classic Shakespearean tragedy. As a handout, it's great on brightly-colored paper. Students can keep it out as they read the text in class. Remotely, it offers students the opportunity to visualize a challenging text. In addition, this download has a grading rubric wh

Experience

I have been teaching high school since 2007. I have taught grades 9-10, creative writing, AP English Literature, IB English, and Journalism. Teaching style

Intentionality is a major component of my teaching and the content I create. I want my students to see how writers and artists are intentional with their craft. I want my students to understand the value of being intentional in their own writing. I believe students should do the heavy lifting in the classroom, so my resources are designed to be robust and rigorous, but easy to adjust and customize for all levels of learners. I’ve done the front loading so that my resources make it easy for teachers to make literature and writing accessible and relevant to their students.

My own education history

I have a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Florida Atlantic University. I earned a Graduate Teaching Certificate in English grades 9-12 from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Miami in English.
