Students are forced to think critcally about their song choices and defend them in the liner notes. This can be used with any text and can also be used as a group project. Oedipus timed writing prompt and rubric. Activity asks students to discuss Oedipus' tragic flaw in a one hour timed write. Developed for Freshman GATE students, but can be differentiated for mainstream English classes. Prompt is structured to enable mainstream student writing by leading questions. Rubric included.
Oedipus Final Test & Timed Write that asks students to draw a "comic strip" style map that depicts the important/significant events in the text. Part two of the test is a timed write where students are asked to think critically about the tragic flaw in Oedipus. This is a writing workshop tool for peer editing groups. This Writing Workshop Peer Editing Key guides students through basic essay structure requirements, formatting, and editing (including thesis statement, MLA, evidence/proof, etc.). For both 9th grade English and 9th grade Gate English students. Teach your students how to peer edit and you will be much happier when it's your turn to grade the essays.
