Graphing Linear Functions Picture

This activity has students graphing linear functions. When finished, their graphs will have created a picture (a diamond)! They will need to know how to graph lines with fractional sloped and non-fractional slopes. They will also need to know how to graph vertical and horizontal slopes. There are only 3 linear functions like this, and since my students did not know how to do this, I decided to walk them through this part as the example. A fun way to engage the kids!

This is an activity that I use to have students practice graphing linear functions. They must include items to make a complete graph, such as a scale, arrows, and the y-intercept labeled.

The students create their own coordinate picture using a 4 quadrant grid. They have to write instructions for another students to replicate their drawing. I have students complete this when graphing coordinates. Then, I will post some of the "pictures" in the room and give students a prize (extra credit, homework pass, etc.) if they complete one of their classmates picture.

About the store

Experience

This is my third year as a middle school math teacher! I have taught 7th and 8th grade math, 7th grade accelerated, 8th grade algebra, and 9th grade algebra. I have also taught in Washington and Arizona state.

Teaching style

I try to incorporate manipulatives as much as possible in my lessons. Trying to get the students to construct conclusions on their own based off background knowledge and new discoveries! Also, I try to use task cards, scavenger hunts, games, and fun lessons to get the kids engaged!

My own education history

I graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor of Education in Reading and Mathematics. I am endorsed to teach middle level math (5-9), reading, and elementary education.
