MAB. Individual practice drawing conclusions and interpreting data presented in the forms of data charts/tables, pie charts, line and bar graphs. Graphs and charts taken from a variety of sources. Practice includes 9 different graphs or charts with questions about each.
Student activity to investigate the properties of "oobleck" to determine if it is a solid or a liquid. Oobleck is made of cornstarch, water, and green food coloring - mix slowly until the consistency of pancake batter. I also have students read the Dr. Suess book "Bartholomew and the Oobleck".
This is a challenge activity for students to use a variety of materials to create a building that will be subjected to an "earthquake" to see how it fares. Students need to make a blueprint, build their structure, transfer their structure to an earthquake shake table (I made my own as they are expensive. I suppose you could also just shake a desk...), watch the destruction, and answer analysis questions. A rubric for the challenge is included. This is a fun challenge for hands-on learners
Powerpoint format 100+ slides on the topics of weathering (mechanical and chemical), soils (types and formation), and erosion (mass movements mostly). Includes lesson essential questions for each of the 3 main parts, good visuals, a few short lab activities, content for notes, and summarizing strategies embedded (yellow slides and frayer diagrams). Also has a link to iheartsoil.org PSA videos - you can get free stuff from this website too!

This ActivInspire flipchart offers essential questions about the topic of volcanoes, information for note-taking/lecture, interactive sorting and labeling slides, and clear graphics. Topics include: the parts of a volcano, locations where volcanoes are likely to occur, types of eruptions and causes of each, shapes and formation of the 3 main volcanic landforms, basic effects of eruptions. I little background on Paricutin and Krakatoa are included as well.
A document that is formatted for printing as a booklet (folded in half and stapled for page turning). The pages review/extend student knowledge of phases of matter and phase changes. Pages of assembled booklet include: melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation, a phase change diagram with interpretation questions, a graphic of the water cycle for labeling, a Venn diagram for comparing and contrasting 2 of the phase changes, and particle arrangement in the 3 main phases. The back cover is o
Double Dice is a review game applicable to any subject matter. It is also ready for the differentiated classroom with 1 cube containing simpler phrased tasks and lower oder thinking tasks and the other cube template containing higher level thinking tasks. Included in the word document are 3 basic things: 1. the student sheet. 2. two versions of the task cube (high and low) 3. two cubes set up with Earth Science topics - layers and plates, earthquakes and volcanoes.

MAB This is a literacy/english push in to my science class. Use with Sopris West “Step up to Writing” program section “Great Short Answers”. I used with tools 1-35a-c and assessment tool 10-11a from the intermediate program. I use the tools/pages first, then use the following cards of answers (printed and glued to colored index cards, which I laminate) to 6 separate questions included. Students work in groups of 2-3 and respond as prompted. Questions and answers are on an earth science theme,

A double set of 16 questions for review of concepts covered in soil formation and erosion unit. It is a double set due to differentiation of questions. The 16 questions are the same in both sets, but for some, they are open-ended or fill in, while the others are multiple choice or have other hints added for arriving at the same answers. I print them out, cut them apart, and laminate them. I split the class into 2 groups - telling them it is so thay do not have to wait or fight over question
Use when discussing input and output along with types of energies (mechanical, light, sound, chemical...). Includes a table set up with 5 pictures to see/visualize in students minds and then determine the input and output of each. Extend with more if you like and/or have students make up their own. Good review of terms dealing with energy conversions. No math involved.
