I have almost 30 years of teaching ELA courses in grades 7-12 in public high schools in three states. I have held teaching certificates in New York, Ohio, and Georgia and have the most experience teaching American Literature, World Literature, Contemporary Literature, Advanced Composition, and Advanced Placement Language & Composition. I also have mentored many student teachers through the years, allowing me to create many files to help assist young teachers just starting out. I feel my teaching experience has helped me shape the many files for sale in my store.

The Benefits of Being an Octopus final test- "The Litany Against Fear"
A blend of middle school and Frank Herbert, and an interesting way to discuss the fears and insecurities most middle school students face. This also works really well as a motivator as you compare the novel to "The Litany Against Fear" from Frank Herbert's Dune. This is a constructed response meant to be administered after reading and discussing the entirety of Anne Braden's The Benefits of Being an Octopus.

The Benefits of Being an Octopus- chapters 10-15 reading quiz (Jenga Edition)
This is a fun way to break up the monotony of assessment. Student teams construct towers of tri-colored Jenga blocks and play standard rules. The color of the brick causing the topple corresponds to a set of questions from chapters 10-15 of Anne Braden's The Benefits of Being an Octopus.

Teaching style
I believe first and foremost that in order to reach students, you must actively build rapport and trust. For this reason I consider myself to be a friendly and casual teacher with serious intent and purpose.
