Intertextuality- Batman and Elmer Fudd

Created by
Mark Sager
This is an introductory activity I use to begin my unit on intertextuality, pastiche, and parody. Students read a brief comic book story titled "Pway for Me," that mashes up Batman, Elmer Fudd, and film noir. This is also a great opportunity to do "La Belle Dame sans Merci" by Keats to introduce the idea of the femme fatale. Discussion questions follow the original comic.

This is a silly little writing assignment for students to explore a humorous thought experiment in which Walt Whitman attempts to woo Emily Dickinson. It is a fun writing assignment that takes some of the pomposity out of these two American poets and is perfect as a review tool as well.
