Order Of Operations Balloon Drawing:
Students must solve 15 order of operations problems. The problems contain parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. There are no negative numbers.
After completing the problems, the students must color the picture to reveal the hot air balloon. It is a great way for the students to self-check their work.
Story problems for fractions and decimals. This worksheet contains 8 real life story problems. There are 4 fraction and 4 decimal operation problems. The students must first choose what operation to use. Then, solve the problem.
In my classes, I first have them complete the worksheet alone. Then, I put them with a group to compare their answers. It makes for a really good group discussion. The students must compare the operation they choose, as well as the work itself.

Marvelous Math
This is a Math & Engineering building project. Students will work on in a team to build the highest tower they can out of just paper and tape. After building their "Skyscraper", the students will determine the Total Cost and Cost Per Inch of their tower.
The must use the skills of evaluating expressions, multiplying decimals, rounding, and measuring.
Hands-On Measuring Lab (Math/Science Discovery Lab)
Students will measure 21 objects in both CM & Inches to determine the ratio of CM to Inches.
It is a great way to give students the opportunity to discover for themselves how many centimeters are in an inch.
This activity can easily organized around the Scientific Method allowing the students to create their own hypothesis. Then conduct the experiment to arrive at the correct conclusion.
