Students are asked to give a reason why each statistic is misleading. This accompanies Bluman's Elementary Statistic Book, section 1-6.
The worksheet has two pages, and answers are attached.
**There is a PowerPoint to accompany the worksheet for class discussion.
This worksheet reviews sections 3-1 and 3-2 of Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. Students are asked to calculate Mean, Median, Mode and Midrange for sets of data. They are also asked to find the mean and modal class for grouped frequency distributions, and weighted means. There is one question regarding the distribution of data.
This is a one page handout that has students create their own design using line segments, then calculate slope, write equations, find x and y intercepts, and write the domain and range in interval notation. There is an example on the second page along with a grading rubric. This activity will take 1-2 class periods. It is highly adaptable. I left the file in Word 97-2002 format so you can tweak it for your needs.
This is practice finding the equation of a line given a graph, but doesn't ha
This is a quick reference card I made for my Statistics course to help students with some of the basic formatting and formulas of Microsoft Excel as it relates to our projects.
This is a quick puzzle that correlates to the vocabulary in Chapter 4 of Bluman's Elementary Statistics textbook. Answer Key is included. There following terms are used:
Probability
Experiment
Outcome
Simple Event
Compound Event
Tree Diagram
Complement
Mutually Exclusive
Independent Events
Permutation
Combination
Classical Probability
Empirical Probability
Subjective Probability
I created this flow chart to help students navigate through angular and linear speed word problems. It is a simple formula, but they had trouble knowing when to convert, etc. The file is two pages, a blank flowchart for students, and one that has been filled in with the steps.
Here is a type of problem that this resource applies to:
"A wheel has an 18 cm diameter. The speed of a point on its rim is 9 m/s. What is its angular speed." OR something like: "A waterwheel has a 10 ft radius and r
This Crossword Puzzle reviews the vocabulary for Chapter 2 of Bluman's Statistic Book. The terms are such as: Histogram, Frequency Distribution, Raw Data, Pareto Charts, etc.
**I was not happy with the way the numbers on the puzzle printed out. So, if you want to use it as it is, please consider downloading the adobe/.pdf version. I took a pen and went over the numbers so they would copy better.
I created this game to help students classify variables/data as ordinal, nominal, ratio or intervel level. I printed everything out on cardstock, and separated the cards and put them into envelopes.
After separating students into teams of 4, they race to place the data in the appropriate column on the game board. This is two games in one. First we categorize as Discrete and Continuous, then we do the measurement levels.
This activity is an updated version of my previous Introduction to Excel project. It has been re-done to work in Google Sheets and Google Classroom. All instructions and grading rubric is on the spreadsheets themselves making paper instructions unnecessary. There are two practice worksheets to practice with your class, and four project sheets for independent practice.
Skills practiced in this activity:
- Basic Formatting: changing font, colors, centering, etc
- Basic Cell formulas – Sum, A
Students are asked to create a table for their prom expenses. They are asked to do a poster, then create a bar and or pie graph for their results and for the entire class results. They are also asked to compute the Mean, Median, and Mode for each item in their expense sheet. I uploaded both the doc, and the scanned pdf because you may want the circle for the pie chart.
I created this activity to help students classify variables/data as ordinal, nominal, ratio or intervel level. I buy a big bag of assorted candy and put into manila envelopes, then have them sort according to the variable types.
It opens up discussion and possibilities.
This is used in conjunction with Bluman's Statistic Book, sections 1-3 Variables and types of data.
This crossword puzzle reviews the vocabulary presented in Chapter 1 of Bluman's book, Elementary Statistics. There are 29 terms, and the key is included.
This Activity practices making Histograms, Frequency Polygons, Ogives from frequency distributions from my 2-1 and 2-2 Practice worksheet. However, this might be a nice worksheet to have and edit just for the grids.
The answer key is available separately as a pdf.
