Rotation ppt description This PowerPoint is eight slides long and introduces one of transformation (rotation) to intermediate students. Slide #3 introduces the rules for rotation about origin in the counter-clockwise direction at three angles (90°, 180°, and 270°). In order to achieve a clockwise direction just reverse the rules for 90°, and 270°; the rule for 180° remains the same. I give a reference sheet that has the rules. Slide #4 illustrates the 270° and 90° are the same rotation. Some

Reflection ppt description This PowerPoint is eight slides long and introduces one of transformation (reflection) to intermediate students. Slide #3 stresses the change in orientation. Slide #4 shows that figure and its reflection are equally spaced from the line of reflection. Slides #5 and 6 illustrates how to find the line of reflection by dividing the range between reflecting points by two. Many students do this but they don’t know how to explain it. The exit question slide reviews thre

This PowerPoint illustrates three different dilation problems with different variations. It satisfies the some requirements for common core 8.G.3. The first problem has two similar figures that share origin as an ordered pair. The second problem is to decrease by a factor of three. The third problem is harder because the center of dilation is not origin. The slide ends with same triangle repositioned with the center of dilation at origin. Many times dilation is taught by just increasin

Pyramids and Surface Area ppt description Explore how to find surface area of regular and irregular pyramids with real world pyramids. This lesson satisfies the some of the requirements for common core 7.G.6 and 8.G.7. It is well suited for the intermediate (middle) school students. A prerequisite for this lesson is that students know how to use Pythagorean Theorem. Slide #2 is the vocabulary slide, be sure to look at the PowerPoint notes because it contains the concepts that is to be stress

Translation ppt description This PowerPoint is eight slides long and introduces one of transformation (translation) to intermediate students. Slide #4 stresses the horizontal and vertical movement of each point. Slide #5 and 6 introduces the correct labeling “prime and double prime”. The exit question slide reviews three concepts that I wanted to stress; vocabulary, horizontal & vertical movement, and labeling. This is short and sweet but if students understand this, they should have success

Box Review ppt description This PowerPoint is 15 slides long. This lesson satisfies the requirements for common core 7.G.6. It is well suited for the intermediate (middle) school students. Students must know how to round numbers, measure dimensions, and substitute and solve volume/surface area formulas. Slide #2 and 3 are the vocabulary slides. Slides #4 through 9 model how to find the volume and surface area of a Crystal Light box. Pause at slide #10 for the students to complete the guided

Irregular polygons can be difficult for students. This is a way to simplify finding area by inscribing the geometric shape and removing what does not belong. This lesson meets the requirements for common core 6.G.1. You will find area of special quadrilaterals and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes in the context of mathematical problems. Slide #2 is a vocabulary slide. In slides #3-5, you model finding the area of three different irregular
