About the store
I have taught for over 25 years; most of my classroom experience has been at the college level. I have taught 4-8th grade math in multi-level classrooms and Algebra through AP Calculus at the High School level. I have six children of my own, all with very different abilities in math. Helping them understand math has given me many ideas to use in the classroom and unique ways to explain the material.

Equivalent Fraction - Number Lines: A Power Point Lesson

Created by
math NERDS
This PowerPoint and accompanying notes guide the students to a visual understanding of equivalent fractions on number lines. After seeing the equivalent fractions the students make conjectures about other fractions that may be equivalent and why they may be equivalent. The PowerPoint presentation is 12 slides and includes values between 0 and 1 with fractions of 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/5. Students see the number lines with these fractional amounts merge and see how they fit together. Students th

This lesson plan includes a warm up, class activity, power point presentation, class notes for the student to fill in during the lesson, a quiz, homework, and a bulletin board poster. Students derive the formula for the area of a parallelogram using a shape-building activity. The students use cut outs to build different combination shapes. The students find the area of the shapes they build and some pre-made parallelograms. They will see that parallelograms are made from two triangles or t

This equivalent fraction power point deals with getting fractions to the lowest terms. This comes with a power point that shows the steps for reducing fractions to lowest terms, a template for the students to use (this could be glued into an interactive notebook), and worksheets. Along with the nine premade worksheets, there is a template so that you can make as many as you want with different numbers, make them easier, or more difficult. My third grade son was telling me how he explained

This lesson plan includes a warm up, class activity, power point presentation, class notes for the student to fill in during the lesson, a quiz, homework, and a bulletin board poster. Students derive the formula for the area of a trapezoid using a shape-building activity. The students use cut outs to build different parallelograms. They will see that the area of the trapezoid is half the area of the parallelograms. The power point presentation solidifies the activity and makes sure all stude

Students often struggle with finding the missing side for rectilinear shapes. This product comes with a print out activity for the students to do either with the teacher or on their own. Students measure sides of different rectilinear shapes and find the perimeter by adding all the sides together. Students find a relationship between parallel sides of rectilinear shapes with and without overlapping sides. The activity can be done along during the powerpoint after each example type or the

This worksheet provides examples of objects to have the students practice measuring while they find volumes of rectangular prisms. It comes with a blank template as well in case you would like to choose your own objects. Students also are challenged to find the volume of a rectilinear object. Test your student's knowledge of place values, large numbers, and expanded form in this fun activity. Students answer a series of questions about number sense and get a code. Students then find out what encouragement Einstein has. Don't forget to let me know how this item worked for you, or if there are any changes you think I should make.

Experience

I have taught for over 25 years; most of my classroom experience has been at the college level. Teaching style

I believe that everyone can learn mathematics. I believe that teachers just need to find what makes the student have the ah-ha moment. Students learn best by seeing, experiencing, and practicing concepts. Each student learns differently, and no tool works for all students. I teach students with the tools they can best understand, which means I'm always looking for and devising new tools to help the students: TEMPLATES to help them organize their work and the steps necessary, VISUALS to manipulate on their own, VISUALS to demonstrate, REPETITION in writing out work, EXPERIENCES to physically do the problems out.
