Math with Mrs U
A congruent triangles review Jeopardy game. Topics include types of triangle congruency, isosceles and equilateral triangles, overlapping triangles, and proofs. Each question also has a timer included. I have left the final jeopardy question blank so you can customize it. I typically use this as a test review activity and have students play in teams. I usually make the final jeopardy question a random knowledge question or a question about myself but that is completely up to you!

Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal Google Form Test or Quiz

Math with Mrs U
This Google Form Quiz can be used as a quiz or test or even a classwork assignment. It assesses students on the types of angles formed by parallel lines cut by a transversal and their relationships as well as triangle angle sum, external angles of a triangle, and proving that lines are parallel. There are 12 multiple-choice questions. I post it on Google Classroom and ask students to turn in all work along with the Google Form.

Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal: City Project

Math with Mrs U
Students will create a map of their own town using parallel and transversal streets. They will then be required to locate specific destinations at the locations of special angle pairs, like a gas station and a restaurant at alternate exterior angles. This is a pretty simple project that allows students to show their knowledge and show some creativity in the creation of their city. A Google Docs version is linked in the PDF and is Editable.

Triangle Centroid Balancing Activity

Created by
Math with Mrs U
In this activity, students find the centroid of a triangle by finding the median of each side using a ruler. They then cut out the triangle and try to balance it on the tip of a pen or pencil. If done correctly they should be able to balance it and see why the centroid in nicked "the balancing point" of a triangle. It is a fun little activity that most students enjoy. Many of them are determined to get it to balance. There are 6 different triangles included. I typically give each student one to

Students create there own story using If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for inspiration, using conditional statements.
Preview of UDL Properties of Quadrilaterals Project

UDL Properties of Quadrilaterals Project

Created by
Math with Mrs U
Students will have 3 choices for a project that will show their knowledge of the properties of quadrilaterals. They can choose from making a booklet, writing a short story, or making wanted posters or you can choose one project for all students. Instructions, examples, and a rubric for each project is provided. There is also a link for an editable Google Doc.
Preview of Parallel Lines Angle Pairs Investigation

Parallel Lines Angle Pairs Investigation

Created by
Math with Mrs U
Students will use protractors to measure the angles created by 2 parallel lines cut by a transversal. They will then answer several questions to discover the relationships these angle pairs have. Students must know the definitions of corresponding angles, alternate exterior, alternate interior, and same side interior before this activity.

Reviews multiplying 2 binomials, factoring, and the quadratic Formula. There is also a corresponding homework assignment. I use this to quickly review before teaching a new topic where these skills are needed.
Preview of Polygon Interior Angle Sum Theorem Investigation

Polygon Interior Angle Sum Theorem Investigation

Created by
Math with Mrs U
Students are given 4 polygons and asked to divide them into triangles. They then find the interior angle sum by multiplying the number of triangles by 180. The students will use their findings to derive the formula for the sum of the angles in any polygon.

Slope: Winter Themed Linear Equation Picture Activity/Assessment

Created by
Math with Mrs U
Students create a winter themed picture using only straight lines on the coordinate plane. They then have to calculate the slope of 10 lines using the slope formula and write an equation for each of the ten lines.

Math with Mrs U
Students are given word problems where they must apply their knowledge of surface area and volume to solve real world packaging problems. Students are also asked to design their own package based on the amount of product that is needed to fit inside. In the past I have also turned this into a project in which students must build a model of the packaging they designed and present it to the class as a pitch to a company and the class votes on who had the best packaging design.

I earned a BA in Mathematics in 2012 from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in 2012 and an M.Ed. from the same University in 2013.

Additional biographical information

I have always had a love for math and found my passion for teaching as a tutor in high school. I tutored all through college as well. After earning a bachelor's degree in Math I decided to go to Grad school for teaching. I taught for a a few years at a High School close to Boston, MA and in 2016 started teaching at the High School I graduated from, working with teachers I had and I love being back.
