Students will complete a hands on activity matching sets of cards to each parent function. There are 4 different cards for 8 different parent functions including: Constant Linear Quadratic Cubic Square Root Absolute Value Exponential Rational With the 4 different sets of cards: Name of the parent function The function itself The graph A description of each Students will have to group the correct answers together and put their answers on the answer sheet provided using the indicators at the bott
Students will be able to use and distinguish between basic exponential growth, decay, compound interest and continuously compounded interest word problems. The file is in a Word Document for easy editing if needed. There is also an answer key with the set up of each problem.
Discover the concept of end behavior by using a calculator to plot the graphs of various polynomial functions and look at patterns of odd/even exponents and positive/negative coefficients.
This is a short discovery activity for students to use logic, reasoning and patterns to discover how to multiply matrices on their own. Students are given 3 examples of a worked out problem and asked to discover HOW they were multiplied in order to create a formula.
This project works best with limited interaction between student and teacher so students build their reasoning skills.
This is a two-part project. There is a sample rubric attached as well as a sample of student work.
Part 1: Students will graph a piecewise function with 20 intervals using constant, linear, absolute value, and quadratic functions. Once graphed, the picture will look like an animal that they can recognize if they completed it correctly.
Part 2: Students will create their own piecewise function and the corresponding graph in order to create their own picture.

Teaching style
Discovery Based Learning is what my teaching preference is. Allowing students to take responsibility for their learning and guiding them through the process helps make the content "stick" better than presenting it through lecturing. They also enjoy the various activities and differentiation the DBAs allow.
