Roller Derby is a fun and simple game that is perfect for introducing students to probability. Flipping a coin, spinning a spinner, and many other activities are great for simple concepts of chance. However, rolling two dice? Students often struggle with developing ways to model and count all of the possibilities in probabilistic situations. The included resources offer an enjoyable method for doing just that. Included in this resource: Warm Up activity Mini-lesson on theoretical probabilityG
Do you need an intuitive, visual activity that will help scaffold students towards a deep understanding of linear expressions? You should try this resource and lesson plan. Students of many abilities, and with varying degrees of prior knowledge, will find this activity to be approachable and manageable. Whether students represent the included patterns with drawings, words, or formal algebraic expressions, they will be challenged to think “algebraically” in order to analyze, extend, and represe
Need a sticky, visual way for students to apply algebra? This activity features linear pattens that can be represented by expressions. Students of all abilities will find the project approachable and manageable. Whether they represent the patterns with drawings, words, or formal algebraic expressions, they will be challenged to think “algebraically” in order to analyze, extend, and represent the patterns as they move from one stage to the next. Teaching style
I subscribe to the “productive struggle” camp. The materials I develop, and the teaching I practice aims to meet students where they are, provide multiple pathways for student engagement, and promote the development of problem-solving abilities. While accuracy and precision in mathematics is absolutely important and something I love, I want to emphasize problem solving above answer getting. I strive to help students develop the skills they need to develop independence and grit.
