Students are provided a list of careers that involve the STEM subjects and asked to research a series of questions about the career. After finding research, students will make a prezi (or other visual aid) to present their findings and interest other students in the career. Rubric for presentation also included.
In these interactive google slides, students will find the coordinates of the line by plugging in the value of x to find y. They will complete the table to find 4-5 coordinates to plot onto the graph. Students are also asked to identify the slope and y-intercept. There is one example for students to follow then 5 practice slides to complete. You will get a copy of these google slides that you can then assign to your students. You may also choose to print the slides and distribute on paper.
This is the project handout and rubric for a "Find the Volume" Project.
Students are asked to find a real work example of a cone, cylinder, and sphere and make a visual aid with these items. The rubric is included to show students how they will be graded on their final product.
Part 1: Students define and categorize a series of numbers as rational or irrational. Part 2: Students plot rational and irrational numbers on a number line Part 3: Students work with a partner and take turns making up numbers and having their partner decide if it is rational or irrational and why.
Students work in a group to choose a genetic disorder to research. I have provided a list of the most common genetic disorders. The students are given a list of 11 questions to look up using reliable sources, becoming experts on the disorder then finally presenting their findings to the class.
When the findings are presented, the rest of the class writes down facts that they learned from the presentations. Template for fact documentation is given in a table on the last page of the document.
Students begin by watching a video on how to graph a system of equations to find the solution. Students fill in a few notes as they watch the video that will help them complete the practice. Then, they complete 4 practice problems on google slides. They are asked to find the slope and the y-intercept then graph each line to find where they intersect. You will be asked to make a copy of the google slides and can provide that to your students.
As an intro activity, or relationship building activity, students make "pretend tweets" to elaborate on the title "Be A Leader, Not a Follower"
Sets the tone for the classroom and is a great first day/first week of school activity. Students are engaged because it is centered around social media!
Everyday I do a "Do Now" or "Bell work" at the beginning of the bell followed by an exit slip to assess what students learned.
This document is the do nows and exit slips I made for one week of my Earth Science unit. The topic is Geologic Time but more specifically absolute and relative dating, including radiometric dating.
The do now's include daily objectives and a question that gets the lesson started with a discussion and a check in point to see what students know at the start of the bell.
Students find the volume of 12 real life objects including cones, cylinders and spheres.
They work with a partner to calculate diameter, radius, height, etc to calculate the volume of these objects.
This document is the recording sheet that I used for the students during this activity.
The objects that I used are listed in the first column, but could be altered depending on what you have readily available.

My students were struggling with the steps to getting rid of decimals (without a calculator) in order to solve an equation. This activity "forces" the students to take a more step by step approach in order to get rid of the fractions, and work with whole numbers.

Tip: I used this with my "Equation Solving with Fraction Coefficients" WS and together they took 60 min.

Students complete foldable for a more interactive note taking of Matter vs Non-matter and Chemical vs Physical properties. My students used pages in their textbook to fill in definitions and examples. You can have your students use a textbook, or a simple internet search for all content! Another great resource would be a short video clip for students to watch to find info! Tri-fold (brochure style) and cut on the dotted lines :)
