This resource is to be used before students read The Whale Rider. There is a student handout that each student contemplates the statements and notes whether they agree or disagree (and rate how strongly). They are asked to make note of why they feel the way they do. There is also a teacher copy for the projector where the class results can be visually recorded. This is a worksheet to accompany a novel study of The Whale Rider. Students find examples of figurative language in the novel and then analyze significant quotations.

I use this resource to check students understanding of the introduction (pages 1-10) of the novella, Of Mice and Men.
