This is a project is designed for 8th graders to show that they can apply the Pythagorean Theorem to real world situations. Student may work alone or with partners. I usually allow about three days of in-class work time, with technology, and finish the project with students sharing their word problems with the class. I've even used some word problems with future classes. This project assesses Common Core standard 8.G.7.
You will receive one page describing the project, and the second page is a
Included are six story problems were students are required to interpret data presented in tables, graphs, equations and stories. Students will practice identifying the y-intercept and slope/rate, and answer questions to compare functions presented in various ways. Some worksheets break the questions down into a step-by-step format. Worksheets can be used for practice, review, and assessing.
With this fun activity, your students will use proportions to scale the numbers of items needed, and to find the total cost of items with tax included. This activity is designed for students to work with a partner, or in a group of three. They will also need access to the internet to find the best deal and complete their grocery list. Included is two versions of this activity, so you can change it up within your groups!
This worksheet uses story problems and data tables to provides students practice with exponential growth, including the use of story problems and writing equations from tables of data. The worksheet could also me used as an assessment. Answer key included.
Included in this bundle are the following two items:
*Pythagorean Theorem Task Cards - 8.G.6
*Pythagorean Theorem Project
Individually, these two items total $5.50, but are being offered as a bundle for $5. Item descriptions for each can be found in my store.
Included are six stations, each with a story poster and a story task sheet. Two ideas for implementation....
Poster can be printed and laminated, and task sheets can be printed and stapled into a packet for students to carry with them as they rotate.
Posters can be printed and attached to a folder, with printed task sheets inside for students as they rotate.
This worksheet uses story problems to provide students practice with exponential decay, and may even be used as an assessment. Two versions of the worksheet are included, as well as answer keys.
