I hope you will enjoy this as much as my students have. I compiled a list of songs popular during the time I was growing up in the 1960's and 1970's. Students analyze the lyrics to answer Common Core-friendly comprehension questions. Afterwards, they listen and watch 1-2 videos of the song. For most songs, there is one video with just lyrics and one with the actual artist performing. The links to all the songs are at the end of the file. If you come across a link that is broken, please let me k

For each question, there are five possible choices. The way it works in my class is that students research the question at home and come to class in the morning and make their guess on a small piece of paper and put it in the History Mystery box. Make homework fun! I've used this sheet for weekend homework which asks kids to do something educational, explain what they did, and then show why it was education. I've seen everything from written reports, cooking using fractions, detailed drawings, and even a compilation of statistics for video games that were played. Parents love it because it allows their kids to do something worthwhile and also fun since it is their child's choice.
