Finding Context Clues
We teach our students that it is important to look around a word in order to assume what the word means. Using context clues is an important part of annotating a text. Use this worksheet to help the students make a list of the words they do not immediately recognize. The procedure is:
1. After reading and annotating the text, make a list of the unknown words in the "Unknown Words" column.
2. Using context clues, write what you THINK the words mean in the box to the right of each unknown word.

Teaching style
I believe that every student wants to learn, even though they may not always show the desire. My students are faced with things I could never imagine at their age, and I try to empathize with them and their unique situations. My teaching style has developed throughout my education into what, I think, is very innovative and collaborative. Therefore, I try my best to create lessons where my students can relate the information to their personal lives. I believe this is the best thing we can do for our students. It's my goal to teach them how to APPLY what they learn in my classroom, to the life lessons they learn every day.
My own education history
I graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Roll Tide! I then received a Master of Arts in Secondary English Language Arts Education from UAB, two short years later.
