I have been a math teacher for over 12 years. I have taught 7 years at the high school level and 5 at the middle school level. Although I loved teaching high school, I wanted to pursue a career in Educational Administration. With that goal in mind I pursued and attained my current position as Mathematics Department Head at Hudson Memorial Middle School where I teach 7th and 8th graders.
The Great Coordinate Geometry Caper
This is meant to be a culminating assignment after the completion of your study of geometric quadrilaterals. This project includes the discovery of Parallelograms, Rectangles, Rhombuses, Squares, Trapezoids, Isosceles Trapezoids, and Kites. This activity also requires prior knowledge of several geometric formulas and equations.
In this writing activity students will be asked to classify three quadrilaterals given their points. They will then be asked to j
In this project, students are asked to design their own mathematical app that can be used to review Right Triangle Geometry and Trigonometry concepts. Students will explain their apps game scenario for review. They are then asked to demonstrate how to solve 5 problems. They must explain in writing how to solve these problems and provide helpful tips to their app's players on how to solve problems of a similar type.
In this edition, students will solve 5 problems involving Right Triangle Geome
In order to get students writing about math topics I created this activity on the topic of transformations. In this project, students have to research several transformations covered in class. The students then have to create a brochure about each transformation. The project requires that the students include a picture of the transformation occurring, a description of the transformation, and a real-world application of the transformation.
I found that this was an easy way to get students wri
In this activity students are asked to determine the best package size for the Sensational Snack Corporation's snacks. The company wants to be able to ship snacks in a pre-determined size box with as little wasted space as possible. Students will be asked to use their knowledge of three-dimensional shapes to find volume.
The difficulty level of this problem could be easily changed to include finding the price of packing peanuts and cost analysis for shipping a pre-determined amount of product.
In this activity, students will rearrange 11 photos provided in a Power-Point file. Students will then write a story about the travels of a special puppy that can be found in the pictures. This particular puppy has the ability to see Geometry in its travels.
Students will explain the geometry found in the puppies journey while writing their short story.
All pictures that are present in this story boarding activity are my personal photos.
This activity meets common core standards in both m
This product is a great student reference chart that contains the properties and appropriate tests to prove the identity of each quadrilateral. There is also a chart to compare and contrast the geometric properties of the various quadrilaterals.
