I taught preschool for 5 years before graduating to Kindergarten! I found my home teaching this age group!! :) I have taught Kindergarten for 3 years and I spent one year teaching in Second grade. I feel that my years in preschool and my experience in Second have really helped me focus in on crucial skills for Kindergarteners based on where they are coming from and where they need to be in a few years! As of SY 2017/2018, I began teaching Special Education with an emphasis in Reading in lower grades.

This is to help teachers understand where each child is at the beginning of the school year, or even to be used prior to entry to Kindergarten for grouping purposes. Sight Word Choice Board- Homework
Use this board as Homework practice for sight words. There are 6 activities for home learning. On the first night of the week, the student would write each word 5 times and write each word in a sentence. For the remainder of the week, they pick one of the six activities per night. They cannot do an activity twice! This is great for giving parents ideas to help learn sight words at home!!!!

Subtraction with Hula Hoops and Number Bonds!
This is a PowerPoint I use along with my subtraction activities. The first few slides are to review vocabulary and different methods for solving subtraction problems. Linus the Minus Takes it Away!
This is a subtraction center that my students absolutely love! First, introduce "Linus the Minus" with the poster provided. Students love that he "steals" or takes away counters! I use this game mat during my whole group instruction prior to students using this game independently! We use subtraction problems from our workbook, flash cards, or problems that I provide on the board to play the game. Simply print, assemble, and laminate for prolonged use!

Alphabet Hunt and Dot Center Game
Use this sheet along with a set of Alphabet flash cards. Have the flash cards turned upside down at the center of the table. Once the student flips one over, he or she can "dot" or color in the letter on the corresponding sheet!! I laminated 5 sheets and used dry erase markers to color in the letters once the student turned it over. They LOVE this activity!!!

This book contains 20 weeks of Sight Word practice for Pre-K to Kindergarten students. It is a combination of Dolch Pre-Primer, Primer, and First Grade words. Behavior Management "STOP" Signs
Use this as a behavior management tool in your classroom. Rather than stopping a lesson to redirect a student, simply walk over to the student's desk and place one of these "Stop" signs on their desk. After you are finished teaching, the student has to bring the stop sign back to you and tell you what they were doing wrong to have gotten the stop sign on their desk!

Sight Word Tales Journal!!
This journal is used in conjunction with Scholastic's Sight Word Tales K-2 set! The set includes mini books, reproductibles, and assessments... but it doesn't have a journal (YET!) The journal covers all 100 of the most common sight words for students K-2.
I created this sight word journal to keep track of students' writing, as well as to reiterate the use of sight words in reading and writing. The journal requires students to THINK about the sight words and how they can be used in a sentence..

Number Hunt and Dot Center Game
Use this along with number flash cards as a center. Lay out numbers 1-30 upside down. Laminate or use dot paint to have students mark when they turn over a number. Example, if a student turns over a "5", they need to search for "5" on their paper and dot it with the paint dotter (or if you laminate this they can color in the number 5 with a dry erase)! They continue until they have found all 30 numbers!!

I created this document to keep up with sight word tracking in my small group work during my Daily 5 literacy centers. The first day is an introduction of new words and a record of how I taught them.
