About the store
As a young mother, I taught my three children at home for 11 years before going back to school and earning my credentials to teach. I have been teaching in public schools for over 4 years, and my specialty is eighth grade mathematics. Prior to homeschooling, my career was engineering, which I often draw upon to illustrate lessons in the math classroom.

Mrs Sigmans Project Occupation

This project helps students to use math and technology to explore life in the real world. This is a great assignment for eighth grade students to research different types of careers before they begin high school. Thanks to this project, many of my students have rethought their post-high-school plans. Students soon realize how difficult adult life can be. My classes have come to realize, also, that choosing a career based on money alone will not equal a happy life.

When I respond to the question, "What subject do you teach?", people always exclaim, "I hate math!". For this reason, I wrote this cute book that explains a few simple ways in which we all use math in life. My daughter-in-law provided the illustrations for me, and students are often amazed at her talent. This book is great for an introduction to a class or just a quick reminder that we all need math to succeed in life.

Converting among the number forms of decimals, fractions, and percents can cause difficulty in young people. This book is a good introduction to the unit on the three number forms. This is also just a fun way to get students in the proper mood for working on decimals, fractions, and percents.

On my way home from a day of introducing algebraic equations, I asked myself which step my students struggled with the most. My answer was "THE FIRST STEP - COMBINING LIKE TERMS!" Once I realized the problem, I decided to devise a way to help my students understand the hows and the WHY in solving algebraic equations. This Power Point is used in conjunction with a free worksheet from www.kutasoftware.com . The questions I ask my students are every bit as important as the coloring process. I did a

I think I have seen other games like this, but I believe mine has more detail that helps students to play the game without teacher assistance. I did create this game long before I ever saw anyone else's version. The students play a game of war with a regular set of playing cards, but the face cards have specific values. If a student believes he has won, but the other student challenges him, both students must either simplify the fractions or alter the fractions so both contain a common denominat

Students measure the circumference, diameter and weight of several pumpkins. The pumpkins are already cut in half and the seeds have been scooped out of the pumpkins. Each pumpkin has a number, and each bag of seeds is numbered the same as its corresponding pumpkin. Students need to have tape measures, yard sticks, and a set of scales for measuring the pumpkins. Students will record the data as found.

This quiz is a fun way to inspire students to follow the Order of Operations and the Inverse Order of Operations. The quiz will also show students how important it is to read directions carefully before beginning to work on problems.

When studying the formulas for the volume of cylinders, cones and spheres, what immediately comes to mind? Why, ice cream of course! I created this activity to help students practice using the volume formulas and to integrate and understand the uses of these formulas. Once students have calculated the volumes, they are rewarded with a small cup of ice cream. What is more fun than ice cream? Finding the many mathematical applications!

Experience

As a young mother, I taught my three children at home for 11 years before going back to school and earning my credentials to teach. I have been teaching in public schools for over 4 years, and my specialty is eighth grade mathematics. Prior to homeschooling, my career was engineering, which I often draw upon to illustrate lessons in the math classroom.

Teaching style

My teaching style revolves around the interests and needs of my students. I use various types of projects to demonstrate the uses and process of mathematics in the classroom. As a teacher of eighth graders, I try to include the subject of food in many of my projects, since these young teens can always relate to food, the one subject that is ever on their minds. In summary, I mostly use a project-based style of teaching.
