Multiplying with Decimals (Thanksgiving Dinner Shopping Activity)

Students who can make real-life connections to math will be more successful than those just learning a procedure. Multiplying decimals can be tricky so I created an activity for my students which allows them to create estimates and then multiply the actual dollar amount so they can have better understanding of where the decimal belongs in the product to their multiplication problem. This fun activity has students: Make Estimates.Determine if they over or underestimatedMultiply whole numbers b

2nd Grade Math End Of Year Assessment

This resource was created so that I could have a better understanding of what information my students learned this year and what areas are still going to need to be addressed as they head into third grade. This is a standards based assessment versus a math program end of year assessment. At the end of second grade, it's important to know which of your students understand place value, have number sense, flexibility in their thinking, can add and subtract multi-digit numbers, and who can make s

I work with RTI students so this was a huge way for them to be independent and to gain confidence with addition and subtraction. Math Tool Kit-Distance Learning-Growing Resource!

As a math teacher, I know that it is critical for students to have tools at home to help them to be successful learners! I created this bundle of resources to send home with my students so that we can work on math together using the same materials. These will also work great for in school as well! We are doing a hybrid so these sheets are great for distance learning and working with students in person. I used sheet protectors and put in the appropriate resources depending on the grade level

Mental Math Addition Strategies Posters and Student Cards

These are strategies that I teach my students to help them to become more confident mathematicians.Too often they resort to finger counting as their only method to produce the sum to an addition problem.Giving them strategies and helping them to learn to be flexible in their thinking gives students a strong foundation for all of the operations that follow addition. It’s a great resource to share with parents so that they can help reinforce the fact strategies at home! Included: 15 Posters with s

Multiplying with Decimals (Multi-Digit)

Some of my students were getting confused when multiplying with decimals. I created this resource to support my lesson which encouraged students to view the problem first as whole numbers and then inputting the decimals. This has helped with their understanding since many thought they needed to treat the multiplication like adding or subtracting decimals by needing to line up the decimals. I included a reference sheet along with some practice problems. I hope you will find this resource ben

Dividing Decimals by Whole Numbers-Decorate the Tree-Christmas

Figuring out the cost per item is a life skill! Students are going to decorate a class tree. They need to figure out the cost to decorate the tree. This fun activity has students divide dollar amounts that include decimals to find the cost for each of the items that will be used to decorate the tree. Then they need to multiply to find out the cost to buy a set amount of that decoration. Finally, they will find the total to see how much it will cost to decorate the tree. So much practice built i

RTI teachers are bombarded with paperwork! My first two years as an RTI teacher were frustrating as I was trying to keep track of data on multiple forms throughout the year just for one student! This form streamlines the information collected to determine if a student is eligible for RTI services along with the prescribed course of action and any additional follow-up. It's a great starting point for students and teachers to have conversations about students of concern. What's included: Two-si

Word Problem Solving Strategy (Elementary 2nd-6th)

Three years ago I was finishing up my Masters with a focus on Cognitively Guided Instruction for elementary math. I noticed that my students would methodically circle or underline numbers in a word problem with no thought behind it. They guessed at the operation. They were missing the understanding of what the problem was asking. I wanted students to develop their math thinking and that’s how I created the EASY strategy. It is a meaningful ans strategic way to attack and solve word problems. (
