This student test tracking graph is a great way to increase student accountability on unit tests. Simply have students write the test name at the bottom and shade/color the bar to show their score. If a student retakes a test, they can use another color to shade/color the improved score over top of the original score. Please rate and leave feedback!

I used this project for 3 years as an end-of-unit assessment on working with fractions when I taught 6th grade mathematics. The project has 2 parts: the poster and an essay. I included a list of student prompts for creating their written response that include explaining more about their topic and their design choices. Before setting students out on this project, we discussed what made a “good poster” (not too much information, large and neat enough to be read from a short distance, etc), so I

My students *love* this game! It is one of the most requested in my room! This is an easy to prep and even easier to differentiate math activity for students of all ages, grades, and skill levels. I use it several times a month during my math stations time with my 1st and 2nd grade students, where they practice building addition and subtraction fact families. This simple math relay race is designed for use on the first few days of school, but could easily be used at any time of the school year. It focuses on basic math skills (multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division plus basic order of operations) so that teamwork is the focus. I intend to use this as our first group-based active learning experience of the year. Keeping the problems simple should allow time to observe how students interact with each other and engage students

Awards & shining teacher moments

A student I taught in 2012 who really struggled with math got an A on a recent test in 7th grade. She immediately stated that she could not wait to come see me and tell me because I "would be so proud". This was before she asked her current teacher to call her mom and brag on her A.
