I have taught significant figures for years because I was told to teach it. It wasn’t until I developed this activity that I felt like I was able to better show students what significant figures mean in terms of precision and measurement. It also helps distinguish between precision & accuracy, as those terms get confused all of the time! In part 1, students use fake rulers to measure various lines and discuss precision and accuracy. Student then use the information to come up with definitions
