Water Bottle Labels to Motivate our Test Takers!

Doesn’t it seem like the end of the year is filled with test after test? As a teacher, even I need a little motivation to make it through the testing season, which prompted me to create this label! I found some blank labels online but either they were too expensive or were made for weddings and birthday parties. I was not able to find any labels strictly for students (of all ages). The S.M.A.R.T. water bottle label reminds our SMART Student of test-taking tips/strategies to stay positive an

Rounding Numbers & Place Value- Is your Neighbor a Nice Guy or a Bully?

My students struggle with this concept year after year, but I finally found something that works! The students love it and their test scores show that they are finally grasping this concept! This is a rounding strategy I created and use with my 2nd through 5th graders. Not only does it work on finding place value (by circling the place value), but also works on rounding (by looking at or underlining the neighbor)! The students must determine if the neighbor is a nice guy, numbers 0-4, or a b

Self-Advocate Student: When I'm Stuck, Think SNOT

SNOT is a catchy way for my students to remember what they can do to help themselves, before asking for my help. For some students, learned helplessness is the biggest obstacle when becoming an independent learner. This is great tool for both the student(s) and me to use before jumping in to the rescue, promoting self-advocacy.

TRICKS and RULES for MULTIPLICATION FACTS! This is a great tool I use for my kiddos who have difficulty memorizing and need some sort of visual prompt or poem for them to remember how they can find the product. EACH DAY is devoted to a NEW NUMBER to LEARN! The order I teach the facts are: 0’s, 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 4's, 9’s, 3’s, 6’s, 7’s, 8’s By the time my students get to the harder facts, they already know the answers from the rules of other numbers. I usually start by passing out a blank Mu

Valentine's Day Water Bottle Labels for Students and Staff

I have made similar water bottle labels for our school for out test takers as motivation (and they were a huge success), so now I have created some Valentine’s Day labels. I plan to use these for my students AND for my own kiddos to pass out at their Valentine’s Day parties. My Valentine’s Day labels are not gender, grade, or age specific—making them fun to give to any student (or teacher)! I was even thinking I might tie on a single packet of pink lemonade to the top to add a little extr

I have used this with my K-2nd graders for independent practice of the first 100 Fry Sight Words. The worksheets are divided into 10 words per sheet (totaling 10-word worksheets in all). The orders of the words are introduced in the order intended for learning the first 100 Fry Words. All worksheets are labeled for the student to SAY IT, TRACE IT, and WRITE IT (independently). I have used this for a Working on Words Center and I have also sent these home for students to complete outside o

I created this behavior tracker for one of my students who needed daily communication between home and school and there are many components that I love about this form… *This form can be used for any behavior, needing to be communicated and tracked on a daily basis. *The pictures provide a great visual for the student and parent (thumbs up, thumbs down, or so-so day). *The teacher /parent comment is short and sweet. There is no need to write a paragraph every day, instead a quick phrase or se

My I CAN WRITE A STORY POSTER is perfect for Kindergarteners and 1st Graders learning the writing process—THINK DRAW WRITE! This offers a great visual for self-monitoring and prompting the student on what to do next. The students can work independently at a writing or literacy center and/or at their desk. I also like to send this home with my students at parent-teacher conferences to encourage students to journal at home—about anything, just follow the THINK DRAW WRITE process! I hope you enj

While this MATH MAT can be used for any student, I personally created this for my students with either math deficits and/or reading comprehension deficits. This mat breaks down math story problems in order to solve, looking at key words and numbers to solve. I divided and labeled this into 4 squares/ process. For example, STEP 1: Important Numbers, ______STEP 3: Draw a Picture,_______) It provides a visual cue, while focusing on the “need-to-know” information. Use for day-to-day math wo

This is a great tool for my students who may not comprehend what the story problem is asking of them. Instead, they can look for a MATH CLUE (key word) to let them know what math operation they will be using to solve it. **I laminate these for the kiddos to use again and again. My students struggled with supporting their reading comprehension responses this year. When asked to elaborate on how or why they came to the answer they did, being able to explain their reasoning to me was difficult. These are bookmarks to remind the students how they can support their reading comprehension by using a simple prompt to get them going. In my store, I also have a poster I use for my students to use in my class.

This fun and catchy poster uses the acronym S.N.O.T as a guide on what to do when stuck on an assignment or test. Sometimes, I am guilty of helping my students too much. I admit it. I go to their rescue before allowing them to problem-solve on their own. I made this poster for my students (and me) as a "self-help" tip before asking for assistance. This gives responsibility to the student and helps the student become aware of self-advocacy. I hope you enjoy it and I thank you for taking a

I keep this log in each of my student’s file, for quick and easy access—not to mention this is a very neat and organized way to keep record! I am guilty of using excessive amounts of sticky notes in the past--some of which were lost over time, and all of which were so short-hand, I often forgot to write important info like the time and/or what the re
