The Gift of the Magi Hallmark Movie/Short Story Activities

Included are questions that I made for the Hallmark version of The Gift of the Magi. They're typed in a Google Doc so that students can either be assigned digitally or it can be printed off and students can write answers. The answers are underneath the questions on the same Google Doc, so make sure to remove before assigning to students. There is also a plot diagram to fill out below the questions answer key and a compare/contrast for the movie vs the short story. There are also directions for s

Vocabulary and reading comprehension questions for each chapter, a word search, crossword, venn diagram compare/contrast for Lale and Gita, a research project of the real-life person, and some essay topics. This is all in a Google Doc. There are answer keys for the word search and crossword, but not for the vocab or comprehension questions. The vocab words have students using context clues to determine the meaning of words, and some of the questions ask for student opinions or has students relat

Soup, Salad, or Sandwich Google Slides

I've decided to try the soup, salad, or sandwich game with my students this year. I have made it in Google Slides. There's a slide for the rules/directions and one for definitions. Then there are 26 slides with food items. There is the food item name along with at least one picture of that food item. The slide also asks, "Is this a soup, a salad, or a sandwich?" There are extra slides at the end for you to add more food items. I will most likely add throughout the year as I will probably do this

These are questions for the 1996 movie film The Lottery. I intended these questions to not be too difficult but more so they could be used as notes for comparing/contrasting to the short story later on. There are obviously many differences, but there are some similarities.

Mean, Median, Mode, Range, and Standard Deviation Riddle

Created by

This is a riddle worksheet that I made over mean, median, mode, range, and standard deviation. There are three sets of numbers (one for ages in a family, one for prices of cell phones, and one for city populations) and students find the mean, median, mode, range, and standard deviation of each. They match the correct answer and then write the letter at the bottom to get the answer to the riddle.

This is a project that I had my students do last year with slope. Instead of taking a test over slope, they had to find slope in real life and create a poster. They had to also include the different slope formulas and definitions. They had to find examples from home, school, and real life (outside of home and school). They could take pictures at home or draw the picture. They could also take pictures at school for the school ones. Some students took pictures of the roof, ramps that we have, shel

This is a project that I will have my students do as soon as we start back up school for the new semester. Students are to create a 2019 Dream/vision/goals board (whatever they choose to call it). It could also be used at the beginning of the school year and be used for dreams/goals/visions for the new school year. Included are the directions with a checklist, examples of possible goals and pictures, example dream/vision boards from the internet, and a rubric for an oral presentation should you

This is a project where students create their own marvelous medicine. They need to give the medicine a name, a description of what it does, write a recipe for it, and create a bottle design. I also told my students that they'd be presenting and sharing in class. This is in a word document, but for my students, I put it on Google Classroom for them to be able to type into the document. The bottle design then had to be either hand drawn and colored on paper or it could be made out of construction

I did a Gothic Lit unit with my students. We read several short stories and excerpts from novels. Afterwards, we watched A Haunting in Venice so that they could pick out elements of Gothic Lit that appear in the movie. This is a Google Doc with questions about the movie, and after all of the questions are where students list the different elements of Gothic Lit that show up in the movie. We did a compare/contrast of the movie to the different short stories/excerpts we read. Since it's on a Googl

This is the test that I made for The Graduation of Jake Moon for my RR English class. We watched a few videos about Alzheimer's. Both can be googled and found. The Ted Talk is on Youtube, "The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's" is on pbs.org. You can choose to include these as part of your test or not. My students were confused as to why Skelly was acting the way that he was; therefore, we watched "The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's" so they'd learn that this is how people with Alzhei

After reading Nothing but the Truth, my students researched real-life stories of students getting suspended or sent home from school for what the public deemed as ridiculous. These were the directions that I gave to students about their project. Mine made posters, but you could always have your students make a powerpoint or something else as well. The rubric I used was found online and it had things like eye contact, pacing, clarity, etc.

I did a unit with my students over myths from around the world. I thought it would be fun for them to create their own mythological creature and then make it out of polymer clay. The students will need to come up with a unique name, a description, and answer some other questions about their creature. They will then sketch a picture of their creature, make it out of polymer class, and then present to the class. This is on a Google Doc so the directions may be edited to fit your class/needs.

I couldn't find an anticipation guide for Max the Mighty, so I created one to use with my class. It has statements or events from the book and students either agree or disagree with the statement. After reading the book, they then look back through the statements deciding whether or not they agree or disagree and find textual evidence to support their response. They also then write a conclusion about their thoughts on the book.

I did not make an answer key (even for myself) because I just read through students' responses to see if they were correct or not. You could always edit to make it multiple choice or to add in your own questions.
