Hands on learning is very important and activities like this allow children to really dig in and learn. The cards can be sorted using the two sorting mats, if laminated the cards can be used with dry erase markers to highlight the key words that help determine whether a sentence is past tense or present tense. These monster contractions puzzles are so cute and colorful kids forget they are learning. The worksheet that goes with it is fun and the kids love to color them afterwards. I used these with my own daughter and with some intervention kids I tutored. They were laughing and trying to decide what monster sounds they would make as they 'ate' the words creating contractions. It was wonderful to see their imaginations at work making sense of how contractions are created in a kid friendly way.

This is a great activity game for math centers. The kids love using the spinner, just give them a paper clip to spin around their pencil.

When I first made these, it was to play Uno with my eldest daughter.
