I am a trained music teacher who's enjoyed everything from teaching full time, to substitute teaching across a myriad of elementary schools, to covering a preschool class for nearly a full year. I like to think that when it comes to prek-6 I've seen it all!
I know that creating an online curriculum is ridiculously challenging, especially for music, so I figured I would share this lesson with y'all. This is a lesson works through Google Forms, it discusses Major and Minor sounds. I've used it in the past as a self-guided lesson as well as a substitute lesson and it's worked very well. It works solely on recognizing the difference between them (this lesson does not go into detail such as raised or lowered scale degrees). Perfect for grades 4 and up

When teaching students to read music, often the easiest way is to "trick" them into learning. Students enjoy these color by note worksheets that are perfect for practice, review, or even for substitute lessons. This product includes a version for treble clef and bass clef for 4 different coloring pages.
When teaching students to rhythms, often the easiest way is to "trick" them into learning. Students enjoy these color by rhythm worksheets that are perfect for teaching younger students to recognize the symbols, learn the syllables (ta and ti-ti) - or even the "fancy" names (quarter note and eighth notes). This packet includes three versions of the same picture so that you can choose which skill you want your kids to practice. I recommend keeping at least one printed and ready just in case you n
One of the most important lessons with kindergarten students is teaching them to identify and use their four voices: sing, speak, whisper, and shout. Knowing how and when to use these voices helps not only with classroom management, but also in finding their singing voice. This lesson introduces the voices, practices them with a game, and reviews them with a fun quiz in the form of a song - all while keeping the students moving, discussing, and engaged. Includes: - Printable PDF lesson plan (p
These pages allow your students to search and find for a specific rhythm. When they color all of them, it will reveal the rhythm's "nick name" (i.e. coloring the quarter note reveals the word "ta," half notes = two, whole notes = toe, eighth notes = ti-ti, and quarter rests = sh). This is a great worksheet to use as a reinforcement after a lesson introducing a new rhythm. It encourages the students to distinguish small differences between the traditional icons (filled in hole for a quarter note
I know that creating a digital curriculum on short notice can be stressful, so here's an easy plan for you to upload to your google sight, classroom, or whatever platform you've chosen. When teaching in a traditional classroom, you can make a complete lesson out of each of the stories and activities included, forming a 4 week composer unit. Visit my google site to see how the materials can be implemented: https://sites.google.com/view/mrs-watkins-music-room/6th-grade/composer-cornerThis produc
This bundle will have your Arizona music classroom set for the year on color by rhythm worksheets. Each image comes with three options, color by symbol, color by syllable (i.e. ta, ti-ti), and color by name (i.e. quarter notes). These are great for centers, substitute plans, and movie days!
This lesson is perfect for introducing lines and spaces to your students and teaching them to begin identifying letters on the staff. Often the best way to get students to learn theory is to do it through games and all too often we teach note reading in lecture style. With this lesson, students will be teaching each other the concepts using TIC-TAC-TOE. I have used this lesson with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes and they would play the game for the whole lesson if I'd let them! Once the studen
Having a running list of instruments in the classroom is an incredibly useful tool. I know that creating online lessons can be incredibly difficult, especially for music teachers, so I figured I'd share this lesson on Ostinatos with y'all. It works through google forms, making it easy to link into google sites or classrooms. This lesson walks students through defining, identifying, and creating their own ostinatos, first with words and then with an online keyboard. Make sure to check out the channels below! The creators were incredible enough to let me include their videos in
I've used these forms both as an elementary music teacher and as a K-12 substitute. They make it easier to leave accurate and useful information for the teacher upon their return and help the teacher know exactly what happened while they were away. Included are two different forms, one for secondary, departmentalized elementary, or elementary specials classrooms (allows the sub to make notes on each class) and the other for standard elementary rooms (options for the sub to make notes on each su

Teaching style
I foster structured classrooms that encourage children to learn through play, exploration, and experiences. Sometime we have to be serious, and that's okay, as long as we leave time for silly as well.
My own education history
I attended Northern Arizona University where I studied Choral Music Education under the direction of Dr. Edith Copley, Dr. Ryan Holder and Dr. & Mrs. Stamer.
