Young children find the concept of time very difficult. In this unit the students will move from the wide concept of time over years, months and days to telling the time via analogue and digital clocks. They will use stories and games to help this understanding.
The Fall season is an ideal time to introduce the students to pumpkins. Children equate pumpkins with Hallowe'en and Jack o' Lanterns, and are naturally enthusiastic about this big orange fruit. This thematic unit covers all areas of the curriculum with many activity suggestions and a list of suggested books. Fractions are difficult for young students. They look at 1/2 and are told that it is bigger than 1/3 when 3 is bigger than 2!
