This year I have entered my 11th year in the teaching profession working many subject areas and all grade of the middle school experience. All the activities, notes, and ideas from my store have been run by one of my actual classes prior to being posted and I thank them for being my guinea pigs and helping me work out the kinks!
Students will be required to create an original image in quadrant 1 of a graph. From there they will reflect, rotate, and translate the image into the remaining quadrants. An example is provided as well as an organizer where they must record the transformed ordered pairs.
These notes are designed to help students connect independent and dependent variables to domain and range though graphs. They will also identify graphs as discrete or continuous.
These notes and activity page are designed to help students look at data and determine if it has a correlation and if that correlation is positive or negative. A great time saving alternative if there is not enough time for students to collect their own height and shoe size data. Can be made more personal after this introduction to help students develop their own possible correlations and gather data to back up their thinking!
These guided notes help students understand the concept of geometric dilation and leads them though a look at what happens when negative and fractional scale factors are used to transform a figure on a coordinate plane.
Students must do mixed multiplication and division of scientific notation problems and then choose the correct answer from among the three provided. The correct answers correspond with a color that should be used to shade in the box.
This quick guided notes and practice page helps students identify slope by computing the constant ratio of change in y over change in x. They must also visualize their data by plotting the example table on a coordinate plane to see the linear relationship.
Students will be walked though how to use the Ti-83 Graphing Calculator to find the line of best fit between two sets of data. They will then use that equation to make predictions within the data set and use their predictions to calculate residual.
Students are given a number in the middle column and must pick its equivalent form in scientific notation from the left or right column that is paired with a letter. After students are done picking their correct answers the answer to the pun will be revealed!
These guided notes lead students though creating and graphing translations in geometry. They then practice discerning the rules and using rules to create transformations on a coordinate plane.
These notes cover the basics of graphing transformations on a coordinate plane. Students are refreshed on set up of a four quadrant graph with definition bank and visual example of translation, reflection, rotation and dilation.
These notes specifically guide students though the process of taking two ordered pairs and converting them from point slope, to slope intercept, and finally into standard form. There are two 'I do' teacher examples followed by two examples for students to work on in groups. It took my advanced algebra students approximately 35 minutes to follow along and productively struggle though examples.
This sorting activity requires groups to read four real world situations and match a linear function rule, mathematical, and realistic domain and range for each scenario. They are then asked to defend the reason they picked the function rule they did and compare their answers as a class.
Students will be required to find the fractional equivalent to a partially repeating decimal. There are two levels of difficulty available and an answer key for the harder option. In the easier version, students have the repeating decimal, the original fraction and the simplified fraction. In the harder version students have only the repeating decimal and the simplified fraction.
This worksheet uses function notation to develop rules for real world scenarios. Students can be guided though first part and use the second for independent or group work, or whole sheet can be done for continued reinforcement.
Student will practice being able to determine if a given linear relationship is proportional or not in graph or table form. They will be asked to find the proportional constant (which we called m instead of k to tie in to slope-intercept form) as well as use given proportional equation to solve for missing quantities.
Students must convert repeating and partially repeating decimals to fraction and simplify. Their answers match colors that go to a color by number stained glass visual.
Students must use speed = distance/time formula to solve for whichever part of the rate equation is missing. Their answers will reveal the solution to a riddle at the bottom of the page.
Students have 20 sequences that must be sorted in to linear (proportional and non-proportional), quadratic, and exponential. There are the same number of cards for each category.
This is a very brief exit pass or bell ringer designed to see how well students are progressing making growth/decay factors based on a rate of change, as well as solving word problems.

I obtained my bachelors degree in History with a minor in professional education from West Chester University in 2009 and my Masters in Education Administration from Salisbury University in 2015.
