Experience

Together our experience covers over thirty years in Middle School. General education, special education/dropout prevention and reading. Currently co-teaching remedial reading in grades 6-8, also serving as Team Leaders, committee chairs, and grant writers.

Teaching style

Our style is rather unconventional. We use a balanced literacy model of centers and rotations, motivate our students with fieldtrips, reading on beanbag chairs, and once a year they get to throw water balloons at us! It is challenging to keep kids interested in reading, given all the distractions and options and gadgets and testing in their lives! Getting kids to try a book and realize it was "pretty good stuff" is a fabulous outcome of this job! Having them come back for more? Priceless!

Additional biographical information

Our goal for Reading Rox is to develop high quality materials for teachers needing something a little "different". Our students need a little extra motivation, worksheets and lessons with visual appeal. We are always on the lookout for fresh material that will hook our students’ attention. So much of what we find out there is so gosh darned cute, but not to our students! Ladybugs and polka dots don't cut it! Soooo….we’re creating a line of reading materials and teaching supplies that are edgy and modern and might just be what your students need to keep going.
