This power point presentation makes writing fun and engaging. Students work in pairs to guess the topic based on details given from one partner to the other. Once the topic is guessed the student generates an exciting topic sentence and uses the details to write a solid paragraph. The realistic pictures and game set-up of this lesson engages students and encourages conversation between classmates. Students can also share the different topic sentences generated with the class for full discussion.

This pattern makes ease of creating a fun craft activity as an after reading project. Students can cut out the pieces and glue them onto a paper plate to create a 'Wild Thing' mask. This fun lesson keeps students learning and engaged. This is a whole group lesson where students read a short paragraph and then identify all the verbs in the paragraph by circling them on their individual sheets. They award themselves one point for every verb they were able to locate. There are three different paragraphs to work with.
