Students will cut out and sort examples that represent:
-Identity Property of 1
-Zero Property of Multiplication
-Commutative Property of Multiplication
-Associative Property of Multiplication
-Distributive Property
I've found that it's best to enhance understanding the properties to compare and see them side by side.
An extension would be to have students write a math journal entry explaining what each property shows and a general rule.
Aligned to the common core standards, this assessment measures the 1st grade math expectations including math fluency. It is designed to have a timed portion on cover page, then the students rip it off and turn it in when time is called. Then they can proceed to complete the rest of the test. It can be administered multiple times in the year to show growth and mastering of the standards.
