This is document 1 for the student's literacy binder. It is used during the goal-setting meeting with the teacher. The student will record the date, reading strategy and goal to practice. Once the student attains the goal, he or she will record the date met. The student can easily track which strategies have been mastered throughout the year, as well as checking the sheet to remind him or herself of the strategy to practice.

This is the schedule that I created to laminate so that students can write in their choices with a dry-erase marker and leave on their desk. This helps students to stay on track and remember change to their next activity. It also assists the teacher in making sure that the student is engaging in a variety of activities. Additional biographical information

I have created integrated units for poetry and social studies including analysis of primary sources for Loyola's Teaching With Primary Sources, Yale National Teachers' Initiative, the Art Institute, and Chicago Public Schools Social Studies 2.0. I helped write the social studies curriculum for 3rd grade at CPS. I have published a book on Chicago's history for third graders called Just Add Water: Making the City of Chicago.
