About the store
I have taught middle school for 16 years. The last 13 of those have been Business Education and Career Connections. I have been a yearbook adviser for 12 years. Last year, my public middle school won the National Yearbook Program of Excellence Award. I believe in yearbooks being relevant to today's students. It is about showcasing ALL students and their lives. Now I have moved to a new school, and I am so excited! I will be teaching 8th grade Language Arts and I will be taking over their yearbook. I will be building a yearbook staff from the ground up.

Notice and Note Fiction Signpost Posters Retro Style Anchor Charts

In the book Notice and Note by Kylene Beers and Robert E. Probst, these six signposts are used to help students find the parts that deserve closer reading. I made these posters for my classroom, which has a retro/mid century modern theme. I hope you enjoy them! They are made to be printed on 11 x 17 paper, but you can resize them to anything smaller (like 8.5 x 10) if you wish.

The RIGHT Questions: Yearbook Staff Teacher Recommendation Form

For many years I struggled with asking teachers the right questions about my potential yearbook staff members. I found that they often highly praised quiet, shy, gifted students who needed very explicit directions on every tiny task. After 12 years of being a yearbook adviser (We won a national award last year!), I have figured out the key to getting to the heart of what I need to know about my applicants. This form can be emailed to teachers, put in their boxes, or, even better, copy and p

This yearbook staff application addresses what REALLY matters when looking for a quality yearbook staff. I use this application for new staff members each year, and use a shortened version for returning staff. Any staff member who is promoted to a lead position for the next year is exempt from the application process. It is important to have your regular staff go through this process, so that you can release any students that aren't a good fit for yearbook. When the student turns in the applic

FREE Editable Yearbook Party Receipts (Use for Whenever Students Give Money)

We are only allowed one yearbook party a year, so we always do it in March after we've finished the book. Every staff member chips in, but some bring in more money than we asked, because they can afford it. That helps us with the staff members who can't afford to contribute. By giving out the receipt, parents know that their child did give the money to me! You could use this for any occasion where students are giving you money.

Every year we design a shirt that hints at the theme. Every yearbook staff member has one, and teachers are encouraged to order one, too. Hint: Do not put a year on your shirt. This means that teachers that order them can wear them year after year and they don't get old. (I also do not put the names of yearbook staff members on our shirts, for the same reason.)

Add in clip art or a logo, school info, and you're ready to go! Prints 4 to a page. This is completely editable if you want to change fonts, colors, or information. This is a slip that is given to students who need to send in a photo for the yearbook. You can tell them info about your photo sharing app, or change the instructions to suit your needs. I print out a bunch of these and keep them in a basket. Yearbook staff members grab a stack and fill them out, then sort them into folders by cla

Teaching style

Students should learn by doing. For yearbook, I believe it should be 100% created by the students. I coach, I teach, and I challenge them, but it is ultimately up to the staff to make the yearbook. My staff is a diverse mix of students, because I believe a great yearbook staff represents the majority of students.

Awards & shining teacher moments
