This is my 9th year as a teacher. I love creating new lessons and experiences for my students! I have experience teaching Biology, Anatomy, Zoology, 7th grade Life Science, and 8th grade Physical Science. I also teach at the community college level.
A cute and fun way to do vocab. Students write the functions of the parts of a flower on the petals which fold up and look like flash cards. In the center the students label the diagram of the flower. This can then be glued into an interactive notebook or kept seperate.
This handout goes along with the new Crash Course Biology series on YouTube. The questions will help students focus during the video or alternatively can be given after the video as a little quiz. An answer key is included. Video can be found here: https://youtu.be/tZE_fQFK8EY
This assignment has your students writing the story of a red blood cell traveling through the circulatory system. Students need to incorporate key vocab terms that they have learned. They also should be depicting the correct order of blood flow through the heart and body.Use this worksheet for the students to create their rough draft and also use it as the grading rubric. To create the final copies of the books I staple blank sheets of paper together. After the books are graded my students are g
Fun interactive lab activity to help your students understand that all organisms have variation, even organisms that don't seem to be very different at first glance. Use this to start to teach natural selection in your evolution unit. This lesson is NGSS aligned and uses the Scientific and Engineering Practices of collecting/analyzing data, and graph creation.
This lab activity has students sampling different areas on campus to see which place will grow the most bacteria. They also test the effectiveness of different hand cleansing methods. The hand out is already formatted for insertion into interactive notebooks. You will need petri dishes for this experiment. I made a simple "incubator" from a Styrofoam cooler and a light. Worked great and the students learned a lot.
Anatomy is a daunting subject. Students often do not know where to start when trying to study. To help them out, give them a curated bundle of videos, articles, practice quizzes and games. Students will never be confused on where to start studying again. This resource contains Helpful Study Tools Bundles (In the form of Google Slides) for 12 main units of any Anatomy and Physiology course. I post each bundle for the students individually when we get to the unit. You will be able to make your
Use this activity as a great inquiry introduction to Ecology. Students work in groups to analyze photos and data about Yellowstone and the detrimental effects of eradicating the wolves. Like real scientists, students will piece together information to figure out what the problem is and propose solutions. Set up as a series of 4 stations students rotate throughout the class period, always keeping them engaged. This lesson will get your students buying into ecology and will act as a springboard
A great power point to use while giving notes to students. Covers topics about and related to evolution and natural selection. Fossils, genes, populations, extinction, embryology, DNA. Thank you for your support!

This unit will help your students experience the forces of friction and gravity like they have never done before. This unit includes a power point, 3 laboratory assignments, a demonstration, an creative project, a video guide, a vocabulary worksheet, and a study guide. These materials will help your students to have fun while learning at a deep level. If you have any question let me know. -Kristin Griffith
This product includes shuffled cards of all the phyla in the kingdom Animalia, a description, and a picture of a representative animal. Have students work together as a team to match them up or work individually and glue them on paper or in a notebook. Great for Biology or Zoology.
A fun, hands on lab activity that will get your students thinking about how populations can change over time. Great for middle school life science students but also could be adapted for high school biology.

We all know that even after we teach the students how to do something, they will still ask us what to do immediately after starting an activity. Use these quick guides with your students when they are learning how to use a microscope, or might need a quick review. One side of the card has steps for the students to follow as they try to focus their slide. The other side of the card has some common troubleshooting tips and a diagram of a microscope. These cards help the students be more confide

This is a collaborative assignment that can be used as a summative assessment or as a group project. In this project groups of students are given different ecosystems to study. They need to work together to create food webs and trophic pyramids for their particular ecosystem. Halfway through the project something terrible happens to their ecosystem (based on real, current issues) and students will need to figure out the ecological impact of such a disaster. As a team, students will write a pro
This is the third segment in a physics unit using balloon cars. In this segment students are challenged to have their balloon car carry mass and then figure out how to make it go even faster by adding more force. Students investigate Newton's 2nd Law of motion in this NGSS aligned, student centered lab activity. **** This product is included in the Physics Bundle at a discounted price!*****

This unit contains some of my products bundled together for a discount! This contains all my Balloon car challenges: Challenge #1, #2, and #3. These challenges allow students to discover how and why objects move, calculate the speed of moving objects, collect and graph data, analyze Newton's Laws of motion, and work through the engineering cycle. All of this is done through the construction, revision, and testing of balloon cars! The great thing is they can be constructed from simple material
In this activity students are broken into groups and assigned one of the carbon-based molecules necessary for life (carbohydrates, protein, lipid, nucleic acids). Students will create an informational poster, bring in samples of food, and learn about what helps their bodies run! Feels like a party...but...students are learning!
This NGSS aligned lesson has students exploring the unscientific conception that plants get their mass from the soil that they grow in. Throughout this lesson students will plant seeds and measure the mass of the plant and the soil as it grows. Students will analyze their data, along with data from other experiments in order to build an argument using data that plants gain mass from water and air.
This mini lab gets students thinking about refraction and what causes a rainbow. Then they actually make a rainbow! I also give suggestions for a follow up video to watch or an article to read to continue the learning.

Included in this bundle are 4 power point presentations that teach your students evolution by natural selection. Based on the latest science education research, these power points cover common unscientific conceptions that students hold. Great for middle school life science or even high school biology.

Experience
This is my 9th year as a teacher. I love creating new lessons and experiences for my students! I have experience teaching Biology, Anatomy, Zoology, 7th grade Life Science, and 8th grade Physical Science. I also teach at the community college level.
Teaching style
I belive that there is no point in learning science if you are not going to actually do science! I love to have my students get their hands dirty and actually get involved in what they are learning. My students come to class excited to see what we are going to be doing that day and they leave being able to apply scientific concepts to real world situations.
Awards & shining teacher moments
Recognized as an innovative teacher at Colton Joint Unified School District.
My own education history
I attended Point Loma Nazarene University and majored in Biology. While there I also took education classes and worked in high school biology classes. I also received my masters in Bio from PLNU.
Additional biographical information
I have two beautiful daughters that are 8 and 9 years old. They keep me on my toes, and surprisingly, behave very similar to middle school students...
