These handouts accompany and extend the My Mic Sounds Nice power point. There is a handout for the "Tone, Mood, and Theme" mini lesson. Students can be graded on their responses to the focus questions. There is a rubric. There is a comparison writing assignment. Students can compare the theme of a text they've read to a theme of one of the songs. The lyrics for each song are included. Feel free to change the songs.
This power point serves as an introduction to poetry. It discusses the structure of a poem: stanza, refrain, rhyme scheme. It also discusses the different types of poems. There are two review activities within the power point.

The lesson plans in this bundle are intended to help teach about drama. You are more than welcome to make changes and revisions as you see fit.
Each lesson is designed for 50 minutes.
Lesson plan includes 2 additional handouts. While the last activity refers to questions for Chapter 15 specifically, the previous activities can be applied at any point during the novel. The handouts are applicable at any point in the story as well.
This project is a great supplement to the SpringBoard Level 5 Curriculum (2013 edition). It is similar to the "Brown Eye v. Blue Eye" experiment conducted in the 1970s. The objective of this project is to get students to understand that they and others have biases towards people based upon labels. This project serves as a review for chapters 1, 2, and 3 of The Great Gatsby. The lesson plan includes 3 hyperlinks that allow you to explain collaging to the students. You may use the links based upon the knowledge of your students. The file includes a lesson plan, a quiz, and a rubric.

The objective of this project is to allow students the opportunity to have a cultural experience they may not be accustomed to. DISCLAIMER: It is a risky assignment on a few levels. You can choose any anchor text(s) to serve as a catalyst for this project; however, the anchor texts included in the Springboard curriculum
This assignment accompanies Activities 1.2-1.3 in the SpringBoard curriculum. Also, the assignment requires students have access to some type of discussion board. The powerpoint references turnitin.com as that is what my county uses, but Blackboard, a class website, anything could work.
This project requires students to maintain previous assignments and provides them a resource for the future. The portfolio includes notes, research, text comparisons, creative writing assignments and peer reviews.

I am a huge fan of the Charlotte Danielson framework. I like when students take ownership of their learning, whether by choosing the assignment they complete, creating the assessment tools, etc.

In March 2015, I published my first book entitled, Inside a Young Soul. It is a memoir collection of poetry written to inspire teens, especially girls, as they ride the roller coaster that is adolescence.
